Cardiac Neurosis: Not A Heart Attack

With the growing awareness about healthcare needs, everyone is super-charged! You will find people taking with them hoards of medicinal packages to ensure their safety during odd hours. Well, it is definitely good to care about self and those around. But what if Mr. X is taking anti-cold medicine just on hearing the news of “cold episode” of his neighbor? That is nothing but hypochondriac attitude!

There are numerous people like Mr. X and Mr. Y who scare about diseases. Not only they are scared but are almost sure that they are going to have it! The fear of heart diseases is alarmingly on rise. People read in health magazines, in news papers, and start contemplating the possibility of them succumbing to it. Then when one fine morning, they start little discomfort in chest, they feel this is the symptom of heart attack and if they don’t seek expertise, they are going to die! This is nothing but cardiac neurosis!

It is true that one should be cautious and check for the heart maladies, but if even after checking one is not ensured about his health, he needs psychological counseling and some psychotherapeutic drugs too! Let’s see what the symptoms that may mimic heart attack are:

(1) Mild discomfort in chest triggered by indigestion or flatulence:

Many times, if the patient is suffering from indigestion due to any reason, he may suffer from flatulence that may pressurize the chest leading to chest discomfort.

(2) Dizziness:

Due to excess acidity, the patient may complain dizziness that he misunderstands for cardiac malady. What he needs is just a good antacid and healthy diet.

(3) Palpitation and shortness of breath:

The patient may complain of faster heart beat and little breathlessness due to emotional stress that he mistakes for heart attack symptom.

(4) Insomnia leading to chest discomfort:

Here also the patient may get acidity spells due to insomnia that is mistaken for heart attack symptoms like chest discomfort.

It is however necessary that the patient is given ample attention and good counseling for stress relief. Let’s take care not to convert cardiac neurosis into real heart attack!
